Well-O-Scan: Mapping Wellness Tourism Readiness

The Wellness Tourism Readiness Mapping Tool has two objectives:
1. It evaluates the preparedness of individual providers to participate in the wellness travel space by looking at key elements of readiness, like wellness provision, therapists, support services, accreditation, etc.
2. It identifies strengths and weakness of individual providers to better understand where they should be focusing their resources and efforts.

The tool has 12 modules. The aim is to gather information about the facility, its business, wellness-specific staff, guest volumes, support services, marketing and expectations. Main modules are as follows:

    1. Classification and Key Characteristics of the Facility
    2. Current Business: Rates & Revenues
    3. Motivation of Guests
    4. Wellness Programmes (most important, most profitable, etc.)
    5. Wellness Staff (Training & Certification)
    6. Guest Mix (National and International)
    7. Wellness-motivated Guest Information
    8. Support Services
    9. Marketing/Communication Practices
    10. Concerns and Anticipated Challenges
    11. Rationale of International Wellness Tourism Plans
    12. Expectations

This tool has all the questions that any wellness facility interested in international wellness tourism should consider. Answering those questions helps the organization to fine-tune and develop its services to make the facility (more) competitive and successful.

The initial output visualises the findings on a Not Prepared – Well Prepared scale according to eight dimensions of preparedness:

      1. Infrastructure & Technology Preparedness
      2. HR Preparedness
      3. Marketing/ Brand Preparedness
      4. Cost of Further Developments
      5. Risks of Development
      6. Contribution to Guest Volume
      7. Contribution to Value Generation
      8. Competitive Value Proposition

The detailed result of the review is the Wellness Tourism Preparedness Heatmap. See more details about the Heatmap here. The Heatmap highlights the key investments and development required to make the hotel/resort/spa/wellness facility competitive in international wellness tourism market.
